Custom Sock Guide

How to Prepare a Custom Sock Brief

A practical checklist for brands and teams requesting custom sock quotations: intended use, design, quantities, fit, packaging and delivery requirements.

Start with the intended use

Explain who will wear the socks and where they will be used. A retail collection, a school team kit and studio merchandise may have different priorities for fit, appearance and packaging. Include the destination market and whether the socks are for adults, children or a mixed group.

A reference product or photograph can help communicate the direction. Explain which details matter: length, cuff shape, cushioning, toe finish, grip placement or the overall look. Mark references as inspiration rather than assuming that every feature can be reproduced.

Separate quantities by design, colour and size

Provide your approximate total and the proposed split. A single design in one colour is a different brief from several designs sharing the same overall quantity. Include the size mix you expect to order and identify whether any sizes need their own artwork placement.

If you are testing a first collection, explain your initial order plan and what you might reorder. Request minimum quantities for your specification instead of assuming that a minimum stated for another sock style will apply. Ask which changes would affect the quotation.

Prepare artwork and material requirements

Send your logo or pattern together with its intended position and approximate dimensions. Editable artwork is helpful when available, but a reference image can be used to begin the discussion. Identify the colours that need to match a brand standard and explain how the sample will be approved.

Describe the material direction and any composition, care or labelling requirements. If the blend is undecided, explain the intended feel and use so options can be discussed. Ask for the proposed composition in writing and review the physical sample before approving production.

Include packaging and delivery details

Describe whether each pair needs a sleeve, hang tag, label, box or other packaging. Include artwork, dimensions, barcode requirements and any packing arrangement needed by your warehouse. These details belong in the initial brief because they may affect price, minimums and preparation time.

Give the delivery country and required arrival date. Distinguish arrival at your address from completion at the factory. Ask the supplier to confirm production, inspection and shipping arrangements together. An event date should be raised before design and sample work begins.

Use the quotation to close open questions

List the details that are still undecided rather than guessing. Request confirmation of minimum quantity, sample cost, revisions, production schedule, packaging, delivery terms and the quotation currency. Where a target price is useful, explain what it includes.

Keep the agreed specification and approved sample together as your reference for production. Changes to artwork, composition, sizes or packaging should be recorded and reviewed before proceeding. A clear brief makes the discussion more useful; it does not replace a confirmed quotation or sample approval.
